A senior leader of the Communist Party of India, whom I have always deeply respected, Brother R. Nallakannu, completes a glorious centenary today. It is an added distinction that the much-respected Communist Party of India also marks its centenary on this very day.
From the Indian freedom struggle to the struggles for the rights of farmers and workers; from the fight against untouchability and caste- and religion-based oppression to the struggle against the plunder of mineral resources, and the enduring battle for social justice — the fields of struggle he has witnessed and led are many and varied.
Braving repression without fear, bearing countless atrocities as marks of sacrifice, and continuing even today to fight with unwavering ideological commitment, Brother R. Nallakannu, a valiant tiger of the movement, stands as a beacon of courage. With the earnest hope that he may enjoy good health, live a long, fulfilled life, and continue to guide Tamil Nadu with dignity and purpose, I extend my warm and heartfelt birthday greetings to him.
