President’s Address in Parliament; People Will Not Be Deceived – Vaiko’s Statement
As the Parliamentary session commenced, President Droupadi Murmu, in her address to Parliament today, stated that the government has a visionary goal of transforming India into a “developed nation” by 2047. She highlighted the rapid economic growth India has achieved over the past year and said that India’s standing and prestige on the global stage have risen.
She further stated that India’s economy is steadily progressing on the path of growth and that India is advancing among the world’s top five economies. According to a report released by the Union Government last year, India’s GDP growth rate, which stood at 5.6 percent in the final quarter of the previous year, has surged rapidly within a year to reach 8.2 percent.
However, when the data and reports released by the Union Government regarding India’s GDP growth are examined in terms of ranking and credibility, they fall only under a “C-category” rating.
It must be recalled that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has rejected India’s GDP-related report, categorizing it under the C-grade.
India’s currency value is also declining at the international level. Notably, the value of the Indian rupee against the US dollar has fallen to ₹91 per dollar.
In her address, the President stated that the government’s primary objective is the progress of oppressed and marginalized communities, and that the government is pursuing a path of inclusive development.
However, the recently released World Inequality Report 2026, prepared by economists Lucas Chancel, Ricardo Gómez-Carrera, Rovida Moshrif, and Thomas Piketty, presents detailed data on income and wealth inequality.
According to the report, the top 10 percent of India’s population earns approximately 58 percent of the country’s total income.
The bottom 50 percent of the population earns only 15 percent of India’s total income. Inequality in India is not limited to income alone.
The report further states that the wealth gap has deepened significantly. The richest 10 percent of Indians own approximately 65 percent of the nation’s total wealth.
Within this top 10 percent, the top 1 percent alone controls 40 percent of the country’s total wealth, the study reveals.
Despite this harsh reality, the Modi government boasts about “inclusive development” in the President’s address.
Over the past 10 years, attacks against Muslims, Christians, and Dalits have increased across India.
In particular, brutal violence against minority communities has been unleashed in states ruled by the BJP.
The powers of state governments are being systematically stripped away.
Constitutional institutions such as the judiciary, civil administration, and the Election Commission are being converted into puppets of the ruling BJP government in violation of the Constitution. Parliamentary democracy is witnessing a severe decline.
In this context, since the people of the country are fully aware that the Union BJP government is merely indulging in self-praise through the President’s address, they will not be deceived.
