MDMK General Secretary Vaiko has condemned the slogan raised by party cadres hailing him as the “Future Chief Minister” when he arrived at an event. He stated, “I have never claimed that we are a party backed by a huge vote bank. Likewise, I have never declared at any time that we will come to power.”
A wedding ceremony was held today at the residence of Karunanidhi, MDMK town secretary of Kuthalam in Mayiladuthurai district. Vaiko, the General Secretary of MDMK, participated as the chief guest and conveyed his wishes to the newlyweds. As Vaiko entered the stage, an enthusiastic cadre shouted aloud, “Long live the Future Chief Minister!” Hearing this, Vaiko immediately condemned the slogan.
Addressing the gathering, Vaiko said, “When I entered the wedding hall, someone raised the slogan ‘Future Chief Minister.’ This is unnecessary for me. Even during my early days as a party worker, I had put an end to such slogans. I repeat again, we have no such desire.”
He further added, “I have never boasted that MDMK is a party with a massive vote bank. Likewise, we have never engaged in politics with the goal of occupying the seat of power. Our journey continues only for ideals and for the people.”
Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu politics, voices demanding a share in governance and power have been growing stronger. When journalists questioned Vaiko about this — “As you continue in the DMK alliance, what is your stand on seeking a share in power?” — Vaiko chose not to respond and immediately left the venue in his car.
