Vaiko has alleged that Hindutva forces are attempting to create divisions in Tamil Nadu. MDMK General Secretary Vaiko has been undertaking the Samathuva Nadai Payanam (Equality March) after flagging it off in Tiruchirappalli on January 2. On the 7th day of the march, Vaiko, accompanied by party cadres, began the yatra from Kottampatti near Melur in Madurai district yesterday and later reached Karungalakkudi via Ayyapatti.

As he continued the march, listening to classical philosophical songs played through loudspeakers, Vaiko addressed reporters at Karungalakkudi and said that the increasing addiction to drugs among school and college students would lead to social deterioration, and urged the Tamil Nadu government to take strict measures to control it. He stated that in Tamil Nadu, which has long been a “peace park,” Hindutva forces are attempting to sow divisions. He appealed to the people of the state not to allow this and to live in unity, rising above caste and religion. He also expressed confidence that the DMK-led alliance would register a resounding victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Vaiko further said that the MDMK would not trouble the DMK leadership by demanding seats or constituencies. He stated that the film Jananaayagan could be freely screened in theatres and that the DMK alliance parties have never acted against freedom of expression or freedom of speech. Emphasising that parents must closely monitor the growing drug abuse among school and college students, he said that this concern was one of the key reasons for undertaking the march. He added that all the marches he has undertaken so far have ended successfully.
