Judges Have Crossed Their Limits: Vaiko’s Controversial Speech
Singampunari: Referring to the court verdict permitting the lighting of the lamp on the Deepa Thoobam at Thirupparankundram, Vaiko said that the judges were testing their limits and had crossed their boundaries.
He further stated that laws should be enacted to impose a minimum of 10 years of imprisonment for those involved in drug trafficking and not less than 7 years for those who consume narcotic substances.
MDMK General Secretary Vaiko, who is undertaking the Drug Eradication and Samathuva Nadapayanam (March for Equality), travelled from Tiruchirappalli to Madurai yesterday.
Speaking at Puzhuthipatti, on the Sivaganga district border, he said:
Vaiko (MDMK):
“Amit Shah is keen on speaking about imposing bans. Drug trafficking is rampant in Tamil Nadu. That is why I have placed drug eradication as the prelude to my march. Drugs will destroy Tamil Nadu and ruin society. Those who consume drugs turn into animals within minutes.
The distribution of drugs among college and school students is alarming. Tamil Nadu should not become another Punjab. I will urge the Chief Minister to take strict action to eradicate drugs.
The judges who delivered the verdict allowing the lighting of the lamp on the Deepa Thoobam at Thirupparankundram are testing their limits. They have crossed their boundaries and exceeded their authority. This cannot be accepted. The Union government, by merely changing the name of the employment guarantee scheme, has imposed a major conspiracy against the state government, which is condemnable. In the upcoming elections, the MDMK will once again form the government with self-respect,” he said.
