Law Needed to Eradicate Drugs: Vaiko Says
MDMK General Secretary Vaiko is undertaking a march on foot from Tiruchirappalli to Madurai, demanding that Tamil Nadu be transformed into a drug-free state.
He reached Melur yesterday and addressed a public meeting, where he said:
Those who manufacture and distribute narcotic substances must be completely eliminated, and strict imprisonment should be imposed on those who consume drugs by bringing in a strong law, as announced by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. He stated that this march is being carried out with the sole objective of rescuing future generations from the grip of addiction.
Vaiko also said that he has consistently emphasized the need to interlink rivers to address water-related issues in Tamil Nadu.
Criticising Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Vaiko said that his statement about “destroying the DMK” reflects arrogance. He asserted that the MDMK has joined the DMK-led alliance with a clear and firm decision, and that forces opposing the DMK will not be able to stand strong against the alliance’s collective strength.
He expressed confidence that in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the DMK and its alliance partners will secure a decisive victory with a clear majority.
