MDMK General Secretary Vaiko has stated that neither newcomers to politics nor those already active in the political arena can defeat the DMK. He said that irrespective of who forms alliances with whom, public support continues to remain with the DMK-led alliance. Vaiko also expressed confidence that the DMK will once again form the government with a clear majority.
Highlighting the demand for prohibition in Tamil Nadu, Vaiko announced that he will undertake a foot march from Tiruchirappalli to Madurai starting January 2. To formally inaugurate the march, Vaiko personally met Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and handed over an invitation. With only a few months remaining for the Assembly elections, the Stalin–Vaiko meeting has gained political significance.
Earlier, there were speculations that the MDMK might exit the DMK alliance. However, a few months ago, Vaiko met the Chief Minister and reaffirmed that the MDMK would continue as part of the DMK-led alliance.
After meeting Chief Minister Stalin at Anna Arivalayam, Vaiko told reporters that the DMK-led alliance will win the Assembly elections and that the DMK will form the government with an absolute majority. “I have been saying this from the very beginning. No matter who aligns with whom, and no matter what kind of challenges are thrown, the people’s support is with the DMK alliance,” he said.
Vaiko further praised the DMK government’s initiatives such as the breakfast scheme and the Vidiyal Payanam programme, stating that the party continues to implement innovative welfare schemes. He also said that the DMK’s Youth Wing conference held in Tiruvannamalai was a grand success. Referring to the Junior World Cup, which he said he followed regularly, Vaiko remarked that all criticisms against the DMK would eventually be rendered meaningless.
He concluded by reiterating that neither new entrants into politics nor existing critics can bring down the DMK.
