“Parties Changing Alliances and Altering Their Stance Is Part of Democracy,” Says Vaiko on Alliance Politics

MDMK General Secretary Vaiko arrived in Madurai this morning to attend a wedding function. Speaking to reporters at the Tamil Nadu Hotel in Madurai, he said that the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance is strong and firm like a steel fortress.

He stated that the DMK, by organizing conferences and actively campaigning, has taken a significant lead in the electoral race. He expressed confidence that the DMK-led alliance will achieve a massive victory in the 2026 Assembly elections and form the government with an absolute majority. He added that he firmly believes the Dravidian Model of governance will continue even after 2026.

Referring to TTV Dhinakaran joining the alliance after criticizing AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Vaiko said that parties changing alliances and altering their political positions is normal in a democracy. He noted that such developments occur not only in Tamil Nadu but everywhere, and therefore he does not criticize it. He also said that the DMK alliance is already strong and that he is not aware of whether more parties will join.

Regarding reports that Kanimozhi would meet Rahul Gandhi to resolve differences between the DMK and the Congress and to strengthen the alliance, Vaiko said that even if there are misunderstandings between parties, once leaders at the top level hold discussions, such issues usually disappear.

On the proposal by DMK ministers to make Tiruchirappalli the second capital of Tamil Nadu, he said that the suggestion might have been made considering its central geographical location. Though it has been announced as a policy decision, the actual outcome can only be known with time.

Vaiko accused the Narendra Modi-led central government of denying Tamil Nadu its rightful financial allocations over the past four to five years and showing step-motherly treatment to the state, while allocating funds only to BJP-ruled states. He alleged that Prime Minister Modi, during his visit to Chennai, made several false claims at his convenience and that his attempts to mislead the people would not succeed.

He further stated that the DMK government is implementing welfare-oriented schemes, campaigning effectively across all 234 constituencies, and moving ahead of all rivals.

Commenting on the delay in the release of the film “Jananayagan”, Vaiko said that he does not know the complete details about why the film has not been released, what messages it conveys, or the reasons for the delay. However, he asserted that preventing a film from being released is against democratic principles.
