MDMK General Secretary Vaiko has accused that Tamil Nadu has been completely neglected in the 2026–2027 Budget.
Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, he said that with the Assembly elections approaching, there had been expectations of higher financial allocations for the state, but those hopes had ended in total disappointment. He criticised that even though crude oil prices were around 50 dollars, petrol and diesel prices had not been reduced, which had imposed an additional burden on the people.
He further stated that while the Union government had announced plans to borrow ₹11 lakh crore, achieving a 7 percent economic growth rate was not feasible. Vaiko alleged that Tamil Nadu had been entirely ignored in this Budget and pointed out that even metro rail projects had not received adequate financial allocation.
Responding to a question on seat-sharing, he said it was not possible to speak about double-digit seats at this stage and reiterated that the MDMK had not made any demand for a share in power or governance. He expressed confidence that the Dravidian Model government would continue and that M.K. Stalin would once again assume office as Chief Minister. Vaiko also remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not enjoy a good reputation in the country and announced that he would undertake election campaigning across Tamil Nadu in view of the upcoming Assembly elections.
