“Uprooting the Dravidian movement will never happen: MDMK General Secretary Vaiko”
MDMK General Secretary Vaiko stated that the Dravidian movement, with a 75-year legacy, can never be destroyed.
In Mayiladuthurai, a public meeting was held on the Language Martyrs’ Commemoration Day under the MDMK banner. The event, presided over by Deputy General Secretary Murugan, saw Vaiko deliver an emotional speech.
Speaking at the gathering, Vaiko said, “I have undertaken marches to prevent projects like Meethan, Shell Gas, and Hydrocarbon in Tamil Nadu. Similarly, I have opposed the privatization of the Neyveli coal mines, the construction of the Karnataka dam at Mekedatu, and fought to protect the rights, heritage, and culture of Tamil Nadu. I have also participated in anti-Hindi agitations alongside those who fought for Tamil. Today, to prevent the central government from pressuring India again, the state government is organizing meetings in all cities of Tamil Nadu on Language Martyrs’ Day. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has declared that the DMK will be uprooted in Tamil Nadu. But this 75-year-old movement cannot be destroyed. We are part of the Dravidian movement. Forces are trying to suppress us by imposing Hindutva, but that will never happen.”
He further warned, “At the Dharma Sansad held in Aligarh, it was decided that Muslims will no longer have voting rights or citizenship, and that India will be Sanskritized. Varanasi will become the capital. Gandhi’s name has been removed from the 100-day employment scheme, and next, attempts will be made to remove his image from currency notes. If Hindutva forces think they can enter here, it will not happen.”
Vaiko recalled his personal struggles, saying, “Someone must be born to challenge the Dravidian fort. I am the one shaped by the Dravidian movement. I have been arrested 28 times and have walked 6,000 km on marches. I have fought to protect Tamil Nadu’s civilization, heritage, and culture. I will continue to devote all my energy to safeguard the livelihood of Tamil Nadu. My party members do not fear setbacks or ridicule. I will continue to fight against Hindi hegemony. Hindutva forces can rally and shout in Madurantakam, but in the upcoming Assembly elections, the DMK will return to power with a clear majority. I will continue to protect the pure Tamil language and the livelihood of our people. We pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives for our mother tongue.”
The event was attended by District Secretary Kolanchinathan, State Youth Secretary Asaithambi, Student Wing Organizer Vasanthkumar, Deputy Secretary Stalin Kumar, City Secretary Ganesh, and several others.
