The DMK General Secretary Vaiko's Equality March has attracted attention in Tamil Nadu politics. This has become a major campaign event for the DMK ahead of the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections.

The march began on January 2 in Tiruchirappalli. It was inaugurated by Chief Minister Stalin by hoisting the flag. Its main objectives are to raise awareness among the youth against the evils of drugs and alcohol consumption, prevent caste and religious clashes, and emphasize social harmony.

The march covered a distance of about 175 km from Tiruchirappalli to Madurai. It passed through areas including Manapparai, Kodai Road, Vadipatti, and Viralimalai. Hundreds of people, including the party’s youth wing, student wing, and volunteers, walked alongside Vaiko. Vaiko’s determined walk at the age of 82 attracted many – even though doctors advised him to avoid such a march at this age, he continued for the people of Tamil Nadu, his son Durai Vaiko said emotionally.

This is Vaiko’s 11th march, which is noteworthy. His previous marches were conducted for various reasons. This time, it has also been organized to strengthen the DMK-led alliance.

On January 12 (today), the march concludes at Madurai’s Othakkadai. Meanwhile, DMK volunteers were eagerly waiting to give Vaiko a grand welcome as he entered Madurai. Melodial drums were played, and Karagattam performances were arranged. Some foreign tourists present there even joined the DMK supporters to dance and celebrate.
