Emphasising the eradication of drug abuse and the elimination of caste and religious conflicts, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko launched the ‘Walk for Equality’ in Tiruchi on January 2. The march was inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who flagged it off.
In this context, the Walk for Equality concluded yesterday at Othakkadai in Madurai. Addressing the gathering, Vaiko strongly criticised social evils such as caste violence, religious fanaticism and drug addiction. Leaders of the DMK alliance parties participated in the event.
Speaking at the function, actor Sathyaraj said that Vaiko is a great leader whom ordinary people look up to. He has walked nearly 6,000 km for the people of Tamil Nadu. Instead of providing shade like a canopy, he stands firm like solid ground, supporting the people. Secularism, he said, is the true identity of Indian politics. At a time when conflicts are increasing across the world, this Walk for Equality is highly significant and necessary.
