“We have seen Annamalai’s antics in the previous election as well,” says Durai Vaiko in a sharp rebuttal.

Speaking to reporters in Pudukkottai yesterday, MDMK Principal Secretary and Trichy MP Durai Vaiko said that actor Vijay claiming he is an alternative to the DMK is his democratic right. “However, as far as we are concerned, we do not give importance to other parties,” he said.

Durai Vaiko dismissed reports claiming that Vaiko had demanded 10 Assembly constituencies for the 2026 elections, stating that such information is completely false. “MDMK has never demanded ministerial positions in the alliance government. Our sole objective is to ensure that communal forces do not take root in Tamil Nadu,” he asserted.

He further said that there is no possibility of TVK leader Vijay entering into an alliance with either the AIADMK or the BJP. According to him, Vijay’s entry into politics has further strengthened the chances of victory for the DMK-led alliance.

Responding to a question about Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran’s remark that people would now see the ‘contest’ between Annamalai and himself, Durai Vaiko said, “We have already seen the kind of game Annamalai played in the previous election. If the BJP contests alone, their real vote share will become evident. In the 2024 elections, by uniting 16 parties, he secured 18 percent of the votes.”
