9.7 Million Names Removed from the Voter List;
We Will Undertake an Intensive Field Study!**
– Statement by Vaiko
In Tamil Nadu, as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, the door-to-door enumeration was completed and the draft voter list was published yesterday, December 19. Based on this, the Election Commission has announced that 9.738 million (97.38 lakh) voters have been removed from the voter list in the state.
The Special Intensive Revision of the voter list in Tamil Nadu began on October 27. In the first phase, SIR forms were distributed door-to-door and voters were enumerated.
Following this enumeration, the draft electoral roll was released yesterday.
As of October 27, the total number of voters stood at 6,41,14,587 (64.11 million).
In the newly released draft voter list, the number has reduced to 5,43,76,755 (54.37 million).
During the enumeration process, the Election Commission stated that Booth Level Officers visited each household at least three times. Based on this process, the names of migrated voters, deceased persons, and those with duplicate registrations were removed.
According to the Election Commission’s data, the removals include:
- Deceased voters: 26,94,672
- Migrated / not found at address: 66,44,881
- Duplicate registrations: 3,39,278
In total, 97,37,831 voters have been deleted from the electoral rolls.
As we had earlier warned, the same kind of irregularities witnessed in Bihar during the Special Intensive Revision process have now occurred in Tamil Nadu as well.
Anticipating this situation, petitions were filed in the Supreme Court by the DMK and the Marumalarchi DMK, opposing the SIR process.
The fact that 64.44 lakh voters in Tamil Nadu have been removed under the category of “migrated” or “not residing at the given address” raises serious doubts and concerns.
If the names of eligible voters have been omitted from the electoral roll, they must immediately submit Form 6 for inclusion.
If there are objections to deletions, Form 7, and for change of address, Form 8, must be submitted to the Booth Level Officer on or before January 18.
In the upcoming Assembly election arena, the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance faces a situation where it must also confront the Election Commission. Keeping this in mind, I urge that cadres and booth agents of the Marumalarchi DMK and all alliance parties take up the responsibility of conducting an intensive field-level study in every polling booth regarding the deleted voters.
