“I have never spoken about seeking a share in power or authority” – Vaiko
Neither the DMK, MDMK, nor alliance parties opposed the release of the film Jananayagan – Vaiko speaks during the march
MDMK General Secretary Vaiko has stated that he has never, even by mistake, spoken about seeking a share in governance or power.
Vaiko launched the Samathuva Nadaipayanam (March for Equality) in Tiruchirappalli on January 2 and is scheduled to conclude the march in Madurai on January 12.
As part of the 7th day of the march, Vaiko began his journey today from Kottampatti near Melur along with party cadres. Administrators and volunteers gave him an enthusiastic reception throughout the route.
Speaking to reporters at Karungalakkudi village near Kottampatti, Vaiko said:
“While Tamil Nadu remains a land of peace, Hindutva forces are attempting to create divisive politics. These attempts will be defeated. Union Minister Amit Shah has developed the audacity to come to Tamil soil and speak with arrogance and conceit. The Dravidian fortress, built and safeguarded by Periyar, Anna, and Karunanidhi through the sweat, blood, and sacrifices of countless lives, is not made of mere steel or iron. It is protected by human lives, blood, and flesh.
There is absolutely no connection between actor Vijay’s film Jananayagan and the DMK government. Many films face minor delays during the censor certification process. This has happened to several films in the past as well, and it could be a similar case here.
Neither the DMK, nor the MDMK, nor any alliance parties have opposed the release of the film Jananayagan. It is a matter of individual choice. Just as there is freedom of speech, there is also the right to make and release films. They are free to release it. Let the film run in theatres.
As far as we are concerned, neither I nor the senior leaders of our movement have ever spoken—even by the slightest mistake—about seeking a share in governance or power. Such a demand has never existed until yesterday, and we will not make such a demand in the future either,” Vaiko said.
