“By ordering that a lamp be lit on the summit of the Thirupparankundram hill, the judges have overstepped their limits,” alleged MDMK General Secretary Vaiko.
Vaiko’s march, which began in Tiruchi on January 2, concluded last night in Madurai.
Addressing a public meeting held thereafter, Vaiko said that there is a theertham (sacred spring) on the Thirupparankundram hill and that there had been no issues there for the past 100 years. However, he alleged that by ordering the lighting of a lamp on the hilltop in Madurai, boundaries had been crossed. Referring to the three judges who issued the order, he said, “I say this clearly to all three of them — I am not afraid of anything. I speak with courage.”
He recalled that he had faced cases for speaking in support of the Liberation Tigers in Tirunagar, Madurai, and for criticising the Indian government. He asserted that he would remain firm in his views and declared that religious fanaticism would be eradicated in Tamil Nadu.
